Renee's Garden French Mascotte Bush Bean Seeds
Mascotte is the first true container-friendly green bean variety, ideal for patio pots and small-space gardens. Created by skilled French breeders, these compact, fast-growing, and sturdy plants are highly resistant to diseases and deliver impressive yields. They feature charming cream-coloured blossoms, followed by an abundance of slender, crispy, and flavourful green beans. The beans grow at the tops of the plants, making them both ornamental and easy to harvest over an extended period, perfect for fresh garden-to-table meals.

Starting Seeds: In spring, once the weather is warm and stable with nighttime temperatures consistently above 13°F (55°C), sow seeds directly into well-prepared, fertile soil in a sunny location. Plant seeds about 1 inch deep and space them 4 inches apart in rows that are 1½ feet apart.
Container Planting: For pots, choose large containers at least 18–20 inches wide and 18 inches deep. Fill them with fresh, moist, high-quality potting mix. Stagger your plantings by sowing seeds in additional pots every few weeks until the end of June to enjoy a continuous harvest throughout the growing season.
Growing Tips: Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of aged compost or manure for optimal growth. Protect young seedlings from hungry birds by covering them with plastic berry baskets, removing the covers once the plants start to fill the space. Thin seedlings carefully, as giving them ample room to grow ensures healthier, more productive plants with reduced risk of disease.
Harvesting and Enjoying: Harvest these tender French beans frequently—ideally every other day—while the pods are still young, slender, and crisp. Regular picking encourages plants to keep producing. To savour their delicate flavour, steam, sauté, or roast them briefly until tender-crisp and serve simply to highlight their natural taste. Think of them as the perfect complement to any meal, showcasing the best of garden-to-table freshness.
