West Coast Seeds Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry Seeds is available to buy in increments of 1

This easy-to-grow relative of the tomatillo produces abundant, sweet, berry-like fruits from mid- to late summer. Enjoy these tropical tasting Cape gooseberries raw or cooked, or made into kam. 65-70 days, OP.

Timing: Start indoors around the last frost date. Use bottom heat, and transplant seedlings out in warm weather, after tomaoes go out . Day to maturity: From transplant date.

Seeding: Sow seeds 5bb-1cm (1/4-1/2") deep in individual pots or trays. Space transplants 45-60cm (18-24") apart in rows 90-120cm (36-48") apart.

Growing: Ideal pH range: 6.0 to 6.5. Mix one cup of balanced organix fertilizer into the soil beneath each transplant. Provide support to keep drooping branches off the ground, tomato cages work well for this. Ripe ground cherries are dark orange, slightly soft, and sweet. Be sure to check the ground for fallen ripe fruits.
