Kolibri is a highly uniform variety with smooth purple skin over a crisp white interior. The mild, cabbagey flavour is delicious cooked or cubed raw in salads, and is firm enough for cole slaw. This variety is very easy to grow in the home garden. 55 days, F1.

Timing: Direct sow regularly after the last frost date for a mature crop in about 8 weeks. Sow again mid- to late summer for a fall crop.
Seeding: Sow seeds 5mm (1/4") deep, 10-15cm (4-6") apart in rows 30-45cm (12-18") apart. Seeds should sprout in 7-10 days.
Growing: Kohlrabi prefers well-drained, fertile soil that is high in organic matter, with a pH of 6.0 to 6.8. This heavy feeder also needs plentiful, consistent moisture. Mix 1/4-1/2 cup of balanced organic fertilizer with added lime into each 1.5m (5') of row. Use floating row cover to protect from insects.
