Timing: Start indoors 5-8 weeks before the last frost. Start early March on the coast for transplanting in June into warm soil.
Seeding: Sow seeds 1cm (1/2") deep in individual cells or small pots. Use a seedling warmer to maintain a soil temperature above 20°C (68°F). Germination may take 8-18 days. depending on soil temperature and variety.
Growing: Soil should have abundant phosphorous and calcium, so add lime and compost to the bed or containers before transplanting. Mix 1/4-1/2 cup of complete organic fertilizer under each transplant. Thought peppers will tolerate dry soil, they'll only make good growth if the soil is kept moist.
