Light: Medium to bright light. Full sunlight can be beneficial during midwinter, but during the summer months it can make plants look pale and yellow.

Water: Water thoroughly with lukewarm water and allow the top third of the soil to become dry between watering. These are more tolerant of dry, slightly underwatered conditions than if they become waterlogged, especially during winter.

Temperature: 21-26°C during the growing season of April to September. Do not let temperatures rise above 32°C once the flower buds are set in the fall. Continuous warm temperatures can cause flower buds to drop.

Tips: To flower, these plants need bright light, night temperatures between 12-18°C and long nights. These cacti commonly drop unopened flower buds, which may ben induced by an excessive number of buds, a sudden change in temperature, light or other envionmental factors, such a drying out or watering when soil is still wet.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans.

This lovely cactus is a living delight that will charm you with its color and fragrance. The zygocactus, also known as Thanksgiving Cactus or Christmas Cactus, is a hybrid of two different cactus species: Schlumbergera truncata and Schlumbergera russelliana. It has flat, segmented stems that resemble crab claws, and showy flowers that bloom once a year around Thanksgiving or Christmas time. The flowers come in shades of purple, pink, white, yellow, or orange, and have a sweet scent.
